Jeff Johnson

An accomplished litigator in state and federal courts, Jeff Johnson brings to Fowler St. Clair a unique perspective based on his experience in a variety of legal areas.

He has worked as a licensed attorney since 2007 and is admitted in Virginia, South Carolina, and Georgia.  

Credentials and Experience 

Jeff graduated summa cum laude from Liberty University School of Law in Lynchburg, Virginia. He then served as a judicial law clerk for two appellate judges: the Hon. D. Arthur Kelsey of the Court of Appeals of Virginia (now a justice on the Supreme Court of Virginia), and the Hon. Alice M. Batchelder of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.  

Following his clerkships, Jeff was selected through the Attorney General’s Honors Program to serve as an Assistant United States Attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice. Assigned to the District of South Carolina, Jeff worked as a federal prosecutor in the Criminal and Appellate Divisions. As a federal prosecutor, he handled a broad array of complex legal matters including white-collar fraud, racketeering, internet crimes, asset forfeiture, violent crimes, and drug offenses. In addition to his numerous appearances in district court as a federal prosecutor, Jeff has presented oral arguments before the U.S. Court of Appeals eleven times, including two appearances before retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.

Jeff then entered private legal practice initially as a solo practitioner before joining an established Georgia plaintiff’s firm, where he focused on civil litigation and accepted appointments in federal district and appellate courts to represent indigent criminal defendants.

Personal Life

Jeff has been married to Elizabeth, a registered nurse, for 22 years and together they have four children. When he is not working hard for his clients, Jeff enjoys volunteering at church, hiking, and reading Western novels.
